Flash problems?
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
No one else has said this, maybe I am doing something wrong, but when I take pictures with my Digital Rebel 400D with the attachment with the rebel’s flash I always get a dark shadow at the bottom of the pictures. Of course this won’t happen in daylight, so no problem, but when I need just a little boost it’s a problem.

Excellent for the price

I use a fisheye occasionaly and this one fills the void. The price is right.

Hmmm.
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
It’s a little flimsy, and doesn’t really fit on the rebel all that well. With a larger lens it doesn’t really have much fish eye at all. Since it’s not the right size for my lens and has to go on an adapter ring, there’s a little vignetting around the edges.

A friend of mine has a video camera that it fits on without the adapter ring and it looks cool for that.

Overall, it does work… sort of… but I wish I had spent a little extra cash and bought something a little better.

fisht eye review for canon xti

This is a great lens for and out of this world shot. You”ll amaze your clients with this one. The only thing I wasnt happy about was the macro piece on this lens. You don’t get as much detail as you want but the two pieces together gives you an outstanding photo

Not Great, Not Terrible
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
My vendor was great and very helpful but the lense itself is in fact a filter that gives the fisheye effect. On my 58mm there is a black ring around the inside edge of the fisheye effect. It isn’t terrible but not quite what I wanted. But like you always hear “you get what you paid for” so it isn’t a huge disappointment. It is a fun thing to have but don’t think that it will give you professional quality. Hope this helps.

Works…

Yep, you know what they say: “You get what you pay for”.

All in all I am quite satisfied with this purchase. Obviously you won’t get the quality pics you would with a dedicated lens, but for the price, you can’t go wrong. I use it with my Canon Rebel XTi and the results are pretty good. I use it most for landscape shots.

Received the lens, adapter ring, and lens cleaning kit: what a bargain!

Cheap Lens that gets the job done
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
At first, I was skeptical about buying this lens as many of the reviews were not the most positive. But I decided that $50 bucks for a lens wasn’t bad and went ahead and purchased it. The lens arrived with only one adapter (I was expecting two) but it did fit my rebel xt. In other reviews some mentioned receiving a lens cleaning kit.I didn’t and was just a little bummed by this. The lens itself arrived in a gold color, directly clashing with my all black rebel.

However, I realized it gets the job done (no matter what color) and I don’t regret the purchase. It’s a cheap lens that seems durable and gives me a nice effect. I only wish i had gotten the black lens as pictured! and i mean the lens cleaning kit wouldn’t have hurt…

It was interesting…

I had some extra money bought this and was surprised. It’s not a horrible lens but of course it doesn’t have the same quality as the more expensive ones. Bottom line. If you have some extra cash and are just wanting to learn how to use the fish-eye lens buy it, but if you know what your doing go for the more expensive one.

Good so far…
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
So I got this lens today and I wasn’t expecting much after reading some of the reviews, but I must say, it is a pretty good lens for its price. This far, I think I really got more than I paid for. I bought it for my Canon 450D (XSi) so I needed the 58mm adapter (which came with the lens, as well as a 52mm adapter) and it just screws on to the 18-55mm lens that my camera came with. It wiggles a little bit, but its not too major. The real hassle is when you take the lens off, you have to take the adapter off as well before putting the cap back on; and like others have said, the cap for the lens doesn’t fit perfectly snug and will fall off if you aren’t careful with it.

As far as quality, it does give you half of a barrel if you zoom out all the way, but at 26mm there is no barrel and you still have the fisheye effect, not as good as when it’s zoomed out all the way (18mm for me), but still noticeable. The macro works great, but I primarily got this lens for the fisheye effect and it delivers. Of course, it isn’t as good as the 600$ fisheye lens, but it gets the job done, and for 40$, I don’t think I can squeeze more out of this lens. Invest in it, it is worth the price, and a nice little “add on” for your photographic needs. And like others have said, you don’t have much to lose.

wrong merchandise was mailed
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I was mailed wrong merchandise. I sent it back and requested for the correct lens. They sent me the same wrong one again. I am giving up and sending the merchndise back for refund. I was very unhappy. This was a Christmas gift for my daughter and I was very disappointed. I was sent Wide Angle lens both times which is different from Fisheye lens.

Please have someone to check the orders more carefully.

Fun Fun Fun

This product arrived exactly as it was supposed to along with a free lens cleaning kit. It screws on to the kit lens that came with my Canon Rebel XT. Images have been sharp and clear and never dissapointing. I couldn’t have asked for more in this fun little lens! Highly recommended to everyone!!!

Not a real lens, its a FILTER
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
BEWARE! This like so many other so called “lenses” are not that. they are a filter and made to fit on top of a lens. And thus they are made to fit a certain size lens and if you dont have the right lenses, it will not work.

The quality of this is soso at best, but that is normal for opteka. When it comes to camera gear and Lens for sure, you get what you pay for!!! If you just want to do a cheap affect, this is a fun TOY, but not if you want a quality shot. Otherwise just take the shot with a good lens, and apply a filter and work it over in Photoshop and you will have a better quality result.

Fish Eye Lens??
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I’d LOVE to be able to write a review on the pictures this lens allows me to take…but the lens didn’t come with a step up/down ring for my 58mm Canon Rebel XLI camera and NO photo shops I’ve gone to have the size I need to fit this adaptor lens to my camera.

VERY frustrating.

Not bad but expected a little more
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I purchased this lens about 1 month ago and I’m generally pleased with it. I have a Canon Rebel XTi with a kit IS 18mm-55mm standard lens. In a nutshell, here’s what I think.

The pros:

- low price

- lightweight

- sharp image

- includes lens bag

- creates interesting effects

- creates great macro shots

The cons:

- Compatibility with Canon 18mm-55mm IS lens. Requires 2 “step down” rings to mate the lenses together. As a result, this produces a porthole effect (which might be what you’re looking for)

- step down or up rings are NOT included with this lens

- lens caps do not fit snug and always fall off. They’re pretty useless.

- edge detail falls off considerably (blurry) with blue edges forming on high contrasting objects.

The verdict:

To achieve the desired effect (fisheye warped / wide angle shots with sharp detail on the extreme edges), this lens does not do that so I’ll be looking around for a true Canon / other band fisheye lens.
